Diefdijk reinforcement
The quality team of the New Dutch Waterline considers the wall profile that is applied to the entire length of the dike to be a subtle intervention that does justice to the dike’s history. An addition signalling a new era of dike management is launched. This addition leaves the older periods intact while adding a new and visible layer. “The design does justice to the characteristics of the Waterline by making a clear distinction between the eastern and the western side of the dike. This reinforces the dike’s defending character. In this way, the design succeeds in articulating the main defence line, a wish or instruction already communicated in the Krayenhoff Program. The way in which [the design] evokes e.g. the group shelters scattered along the dike, is highly appreciated.”
