Port of Terschelling

The symbiosis between human activity and impressive natural processes accounts for Terschelling’s attraction to inhabitants and outsiders alike. According to Rietveld Landscape, this fact should guide all attempts at dealing with the rising of the sea level. Because it is impossible to predict with sufficient certainty when the sea will have what level, flexible strategies for East and West-Terschelling are needed; interventions that follow the movement of the water and can be adjusted through time.

In the near future, arriving at the island of Terschelling will take place in a proper port. Rising sea levels offer the ultimate opportunity for creating a floating terminal that follows the movements of the sea. By taking care of the mooring in this terminal, the port itself will gain more space. An oblong building incorporates functions such as fish and chips stand, ticket sale, etcetera. A pleasant public route starts at this building and guides visitors in a straight line alongside all boats via the Dorpsstraat to the Brandaris lighthouse. Read more>>>
